Katarina Ekelund works with an abstract expressionist large-scale painting. She is primarily interested in color, patterns and shapes and paints layer upon layer. Previously, she painted self-portraits, but then switched to painting landscapes, which over time have become more abstract. With the landscape as the sound base, she experiments with patterns and colors that play a crucial role in the artistic process. She likes to work with large-scale paintings so that she can physically take out the turns in the act itself, the paint is poured, mixed, thrown and splashed in order to convey an energy.
Katarina Ekelund, b. 1966, works in northern Bohuslän and has her studio in a church. She is educated at Konstfack and Gerlesborgsskolan.
